Postgraduate Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria listed below to be considered for admission to our postgraduate programmes.

The complete admissions process—including evaluation, shortlisting, and final offers—will conclude by 2026, with the first semester scheduled to commence the same year.

Helpful tips to crack your university interview

Prepare mindfully for the personal interview Be prepared to discuss your academic interests and reasons for choosing your programme. Clarity of thought on your motivations and career goals will help you make a strong impression.
Highlight both your academic and personal achievements Your academic performance forms the foundation of your application, but your extracurricular pursuits help the panel understand your interests and potential. Share examples from sports, debates, clubs, community work, or creative projects that reflect your passion and drive.

We’ve listed some questions that often come up when applying to University of York Mumbai. Here’s what you should know.

1. Do I need to take the IELTS to apply?

IELTS is not a mandatory requirement for applying. English marks from Standard XII are accepted from all recognised Indian boards. However, if the stipulated grade requirements are not met, applicants may be asked to take IELTS or another approved English proficiency test.

2. Will the annual tuition fee remain the same throughout the course?

Tuition fees may increase by up to 5% in subsequent academic years. Any revision in fees will be communicated to students in advance.

3. Who is considered a domestic student and who is considered an international student?

Domestic students are applicants who are Indian nationals residing in India and applying for undergraduate or postgraduate programmes at the University of York, Mumbai. Please note: To be considered a domestic applicant, you must both hold Indian citizenship and be residing in India at the time of application. International students are applicants who are Foreign Nationals, Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), or Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) residing outside India and seeking admission to undergraduate or postgraduate programmes at the University of York, Mumbai.

4. What is the selection criteria for admission?

Admission to the University of York, Mumbai, is based on a holistic evaluation of each applicant’s academic performance, personal interview, and overall achievements. For undergraduate applicants, selection is based on Class X and XI marks, a personal interview, and extracurricular accomplishments. Exceptional candidates with an outstanding academic record may receive direct admission without an interview. For postgraduate applicants, selection considers undergraduate academic performance, personal interview, letters of reference, statement of purpose, and extracurricular achievements. Final-year students may also apply, with admission confirmed upon submission of final results. The interview may be waived for candidates with exceptional scores in recognised entrance exams such as CAT, XAT, MAT, NMAT, GMAT, or CMAT.

5. What is the university’s policy on withdrawal of admission?

If you choose to withdraw your admission, the University of York, Mumbai, will process your request in accordance with the UGC Notification on Fee Refund and Non-Retention of Original Certificates (2024). Following are the conditions for a refund of the fees. The application fee is non-refundable. The tuition fee refund will depend on the timing of withdrawal:

100% refund (minus a processing fee of up to ₹1,000) if withdrawn 15 days or more before the last date of admission.
90% refund if withdrawn within 15 days before the last date of admission.
80% refund if withdrawn within 15 days after the last date of admission.
50% refund if withdrawn between 16–30 days after the last date of admission.
No refund after 30 days from the last date of admission.

For students receiving scholarships or fee waivers, the refund will be calculated after adjusting the awarded concessions. The security deposit is fully refundable upon withdrawal or graduation, subject to clearance of dues and completion of formalities. All eligible refunds are processed within 15 working days of receiving the complete withdrawal application, directly to the registered bank account.
